Dear Sir,
I would like to appeal the suspension of my driver's license for my July 9, 2002
/ruder-age drinking offense at Hershey Park for the following reasons:
1 was not drinking and driving. I did not have my license as I had to turn it in on
July 3 for 2 speeding tickets and could not drive.
The friends I was with wanted to drink in my car on the way to Hershey and I
would not let them. It was my car and I did not want that responsibility.
My friends and I had stopped outside the bathrooms to talk to another group when
the policeman approached all of us. He had suspected the group we were talking to of
drugs and alcohol, not myself or my friends. He was correct. Then he asked me ifI had
had anything to drink and [ told him the truth, lfI had lied nothing would have happened.
I admitted that I did drink half a beer and paid $227.50 for my stupidity.
I have taken and passed the special driving test required for having lost my license
originally.
I was not able to get a summer job as both my parents work full time and were not
able to drive me. lfmy license continues to be suspended I will not be able to work this
winter, either. I need to repay my parents.
I also will not be able to work on my Senior Project - a mural for the Football
field ifI have to ride the bus daily.
I realize that drinking the halfa beer was wrong, and stupid, but I did own up to
what I did. Paying $227.50 for halfa beer seems sufficient punishment for being wrong
and telling the truth about it.
Sincerely,
Shannon M. Petty ~
