This is to advise that I am the Solicitor for the Register
of Wills of Cumberland County. On February 23, 1979, Helen M.
Stouffer, 456 Fairground Avenue, Carlisle, pennsylvania,
petitioned for Letters of Administration in the above-captioned
Estate. Helen M. stouffer's attorney is Dale F. Shughart, Jr.,
Esquire of the firm of Fowler, Addams & Shughart, 28 South
pitt street, Carlisle, pennsylvania.
The purpose of this letter is to advise you that unless
one or more of you elect to file a Petition for Letters of
Administraiton or file an objection to the issuance of Letters
of Administration to lIelen M. stouffer, that the Register of

RE: Estate of Guy Lester Barrick
Dear Jerry:
Pursuant to our telephone conversation this date, I am setting
forth herein the reasons why the petition of Helen M. Stouffer,
my client, was presented without the normal renunciation request
from Mr. Barrick's heirs.
Mr. Barrick died owning only a one-half tenant in common interest
in a parcel of real estate with his former wife, Helen M. Stouffer.
Mr. Barrick and Mrs. Stouffer were divorced but the property was
not partitioned or otherwise conveyed. The property is worth in
the neighborhood of $4,000 - $5,000,00. }lr. Barrick has a
$2,500.00 welfare lien against the property and, to my knowledge,
has no personal property. He had lived at the prope~ty but it
was partially burned shortly before his death.
Mrs. Stouffer cannot, obviously, effectively dispose of her one-half
interest in the property unless an administration is raised in the
estate of Mr, Barrick to permit that interest to be disposed of.
Mrs. Stouffer has arranged an agreement with the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania, Department of Welfare, to obtain a release of the lien
from this property for a payment of $500.00, which must be made
within ninety (90) days.
On or about the summer of 1978, the matter was discussed between
George E. Hoffer, Esquire and me. Mr. Hoffer represents at least
some of Mr. Barrick's heirs at law. Mr. Hoffer has advised me
that he forwarded a renunciation request form to one of the Barricks
with the request that it be circulated among the family so my
