PETITION TO SETTLE SMALL ESTATE
TO THE HONORABLE, THE JUDGES OF SAID COURT:
AND NOW, comes the petitioner, Betty J. Karns, by her
attorney, David R. Dodd, who files this Petition for Settlement of
Small Estate under the provisions of Section 3102 of the Probate,
Estates and Fiduciaries Code, 20 Pa.C.S. ~3l02, and Local Rule
71.2 of the Orphans Court of Cumberland County, and in support
thereof, respectfully avers the following:
1. The decedent is Earle K. Slothower who died on
February la, 1981, at the age of 79 years with his domicile at
625 Bosler Avenue, Lemoyne, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. The
decedent is survived by his wife, Clara Mae Slothower who presently
resides at said residence.

form a part of decedent's household at the date of his death.
3. Decedent died testate having made his Last Will and
Testament dated June 6, 1969, naminp, inter alia his wife, Clara
Mae Slothower, as Executrix and your petitioner as Alternate
Executrix. Letters Testamentary have not been issued bv the

Register of Wills. A copy of said Last Will and Testament of
decedent is marked Exhibit A, attached hereto and made part hereof.
4. In accordance with said Last I.Jill and Testament,
decedent bequeathed his entire estate unto his wife, Clara Mae
Slothower, surviving spouse, as more fully appears in paragraph
II of Exhibit A.
5. The said surviving spouse, Clara Mae Slothower, is
entitled to the family exemption but due to the minimal assets
set forth hereinafter, a family exemption is not claimed herewith.
6. The decedent died seized and possessed in his own
name the following individual assets together with their value
as verified:
(A) 1970 Ford automobile having a market value at the
time of death of decedent of $400.00, as confirmed
by appraisal affidavit marked Exhibit B attached
hereto;
(B) 39 shares of stock of Dauphin Deposit Bank and Trust
Company valued at $35.00 per share as being the
market value well-known in the comrnunitv. Said
stock having an aggregate value of $1365.00.
The combined value of decedent's assets at the time of
death is $1,765.00.
7. There are no unpaid claimants or creditors of the
decedent whereby the only disbursement made prior to the filinp,
of the within petition is the expense of the funeral paid by the
surviving spouse in the amount of $2,417.00, payable to Kimmel
Funeral Home.

I, EARLE K. SLOTHOWER, of the Boroul\h of Lemoyne, County of Cumberland
and State of Pennsylvania, being of sound miud, memory and understanding, do
hereby make, publish and declare this as and for my Last Will nnd Testament
hereby revoking and making void any and all other Wills by me at any time here-
tofore made.
I.
I direct that my Executrix hereinafter named shall pay all my just
debts and funeral expenses as soon as conveniently may be done after my decease.
II.
All the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, whether real, personal
or mixed and wheresoever situate, I hereby give, devise and bequeath unto my
wife, CLARA MAE SLOT1IOWER, if she survives me hy a period of thirty (30) days.
If she does not survive me by a period of thirty (30) days, then this gift
to her shall be divested, and I then give, devise and bequeath my entire estate,
including real estate, personal property or mixed unto my stepson, GEORGE H.
GATES, of the Township of Silver springs, County of cumberland and State ,of
Penn8ylvania; my stepdaughter, BETTY G. KARNS, of the Borough of Lemoyne, County
of cumberland and State of Pennsylvania; my d,.ughter. IIAIUIAHA S. .JACOBS, of
Glenburnie, Maryland; and my daughter, ALICE S. WISSl.m:, of the Borough of
Mechanicsburg, County of Cumbl'rland and Stale of Pennsylvania, in equal sharps.

POWER OF ATTORNEY
KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, That I, Clara Mae Slothower,
of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, a citizen of the United States,
have-made, constituted and appointed, and by these presents do make,
constitute and appoint Betty J. Karns, of Cumberland County,
Pennsylvania, as my true and lawful attorney, for me and in my name,
place and stead, whenever and upon such terms as my attorney deems
advisable, perform and do all of the following:
1. To ask, demand, sue for, collect and receive all sums
of money, dividends, interest, payments on account of debts and legacieS,
and all property now due or which may hereafter become due and owing
to me, and give good and valid receipts and discharges for such
payments and to invest and reinvest any of my assets;
2. To sell, assign and transfer stocks and bon~s and
securities standing in my name or belonging to me;
3. To buy and sell securities of all kinds and descriptions
in my name and for my account and at such prices as agreed to by my
said attorney;
4. To sign, execute, acknowledge and deliver in my name
all transfers and assignments of securities and titles to motor
vehicles;
5. To borrow money and to pledge securities for such loans
and give any security for such loan as my attorney deems advisable;

6. To consent in my name to reorganizations and mergers,
and to the exchange of securities for new securities;
7. To manage real property, to lease, improve, sell, grant,
take possession of, convey and mortgage realty and to foreclose
mortgages and to take title to property in my name or my attorney's
name;
B. To execute, acknowledge and deliver deeds of real property
with or without general warranty, mortgages, releases, satisfactions,
and other instruments relating thereto which my attorney deems proper;
9. To place and effect insurance of all types and to cancel
any insurance policies;
10. To do business with banks and particularly to endorse
all checks and drafts made payable to my order and collect the
proceeds, to sign in my name chicks on all accounts standing in my

13. Hereby giving and granting to my said attorney full
power, discretion and authority to do and perform all and every act
and thing whatsoever to be done in the premises or any lawful act I
can personally do as fully to all intents and purposes as I might or
could do if personally present, with full power of substitution and
revocation, hereby ratifying and confirming all that my said attorney
may do pursuant to this power;
14. My said attorney shall have the further authority to
disburse any money or assets belonging to me for any purposes in
connection with either the personal needs ,support, maintenance and
medical attention of myself or my said attorney in any such amounts
and for such purposes and at such times as my said attorney
in unrestricted discretion and judgment may deem best;
15. To eKecute, acknowledge and file Federal, State and
local income tax and personal property tax returns;
16. To engage and employ and dismiss any agents, clerks,
servants, or other persons as my attorney, in her sole discretion,

17. In addition to the powers and discretion herein
specifically given and conferred upon my attorney, she is hereby
given full and complete authority to do, perform and to cause to be
done and performed all such acts, deeds and matters and things in
connection with my property and estate as my attorney, in my attorney's
sole discretion shall deem proper, as fully, effectually and
absolutely as if she were the sole absolute owner and possessor thereof;
This power of Attorney shall continue in effect until such
time as written revocation is recorded in the Office of the Recorder
of Deeds of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
