This response should arrive in two parts: first, a part infused with empathy for you in light of my own recent loss; and second, a part borne of my duty to Cumberland County Government. A father's loss has an adverse effect on the life of his child, and I empathize with your position and desire to assist you through the probate process up to a point. When such assistance compromises my duty to Cumberland County Government, however, then it would have to cease. Specifically, in your father's matter, as an elected Row Officer of Cumberland County I am prohibited from providing legal advice to persons filing documents in my office. The reason for the prohibition deals with possible imposition of liability not only upon me, individually, but also upon Cumberland County Government. Although I am predisposed to helping you on an individual level, pursuant to my oath of office, I cannot agree to provide any further "assistance" in this matter except for again advising the employment of legal counsel. In closing, Mrs. Tindal, let me assure you that your father's case is proceeding according to law. Moreover, please know my intentions and objectives as Cumberland County's Register of Wills are to facilitate the probate process for the county electorate, including you, but not to exceed the boundaries of the laws of the Commonwealth when doing so.
