PETITION FOR APPOINTMENT OF
PRIVATE POLICE FOR DICKINSON COLLEGE
AND NOW, Dickinson College, by its General Counsel, Dana Stevens Scaduto, respectfully
requests that this Court appoint a private police officer for the Dickinson College campus. In support of
its request, Dickinson College states as follows:
1. Petitioner, Dickinson College (hereinafter "College"), is anon-profit corporation existing
under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and operates a college in Cazlisle, Cumberland
County, Pennsylvania.
2. The Petitioner's campus consists of large areas of grounds which aze open to the public in
and azound the Borough of Carlisle.
3. Section 501 of P.L. 1063, No. 271, dated November 15, 1972, as amended (22 Pa. C.S.
§501) authorizes any non-profit corporation to petition the Court to seek the appointment of private police
officers to act as police officers in the immediate and adjacent vicinity of the non-profit corporation's
property.
4. The Petitioner has, in the past, had individuals appointed by this Court to act as private
police officers to care for the safety of the Petitioner's students and staff, and the general public, and to
provide for the protection of the property of the College.
The Petitioner designates the following individual as a candidate for appointment as a
private police officer and respectfully requests the Court to make said appointment;

WHEREFORE, Petitioner requests this Court to appoint Eric Piper as a private police officer for the
Dickinson College campus.

O E ND DECREE
AND NOW, this i~ day of , 2007, upon presentation and consideration of the
Petition for Appointment of Dickinson College Private Police, it is ORDERED AND DECREED as follows:
1. Eric Piper, 101 West Louther Street, Carlisle, PA 17013, is appointed pursuant to 22 Pa. C.S.
§501 to act as a private police officer for the Dickinson College campus.
2. That before commencing the duties of a private police officer for Dickinson College, said Appointee
shall take and subscribe to the following oath of office as required by Article 6, Section 3 of the Constitution
of Pennsylvania, which oath shall be recorded by the Cumberland County Recorder of Deeds:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support, obey and defend the
Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the
Commonwealth, and that I will discharge the duties of my office with
fidelity.
3. Said Appointee shall, when on duty, wear a metallic shield with the words "Special
Officer, Dickinson College" inscribed thereon.
4. Counsel shall transmit a certified copy of this Order and Decree to the Office of the
Recorder of Deeds where the same shall be recorded with the Oath required by Article 6 of the
Pennsylvania Constitution.
5. At such time as Dickinson College shall no longer require the services of said Appointee,
a notice to that effect under the Dickinson College corporate seal shall be filed in the Office of the
Recorder of Deeds. This information shall be noted upon the margin of the record where the Order and
Decree were recorded, and thereupon the powers
