Report from Guardian of Person
Cumberland County Office of Aging
Janet Paull, Aging Care Manager 3
On March 14 ,2006 Judge Kevin Hess appointed the Cumberland County Office of
Aging Emergency Plenary Guardian of Person for Nancy Hoerner and on April 6,
2006 the agency was named Nancy's Permanent Plenary Guardian.
On April 18, 2006, following a brief stay in the Behavioral Health Unit of
Chambersburg Hospital, Nancy was admitted to the South Mountain ~toratio~

In January 2007, Nancy had been diagnosed with possible breast cancer as a result
of a mammogram. She initially refused to go for a biopsy and to an appointment for
a second opinion. Unfortunately, Nancy refused to go for a scheduled biopsy. The
agency sought advice from our attorney and consultant. Eventually, however,
Nancy agreed to go for a biopsy and it was found to be negative of cancer but
atypical cells were found. She will be put on amoxophen for 5 years

Because of continued negative interactions with her roommate, Nancy was given a
private room on the same floor. She seems to be much happier with this
arrangement.

In February, I attended her annual review. She has been seen by a psychiatrist on
an ongoing basis and has been diagnoses with alzheimer's in addition to her mental
health issues. Her mood seems to be much improved and she has been compliant
with taking medication. They reported that she likes to move the furniture in her
room a lot. For social activities she likes to play checkers, visit the cafe and go on
the bus trips to a local Sheetz. She occasionally calls her daughter.
It is the request of the Cumberland County Office of Aging that the agency retains
Guardianship of Person for Nancy Hoerner. The South Mountain Restoration Center
has demonstrated an adequate quality of care for her medical and mental problems.
We believe, therefore, that Ms. Hoerner should continue to reside in that nursing
facility.
