Dear Robert:
As you are aware, Pennsylvania requires the payment of inheritance tax on all
transfers from an estate to heirs. In your instance, the inheritance tax levied
against the net value of your mother's estate will be 4.5% because all ht:irs an:
lineal heirs, i.e., daughter and son.
Ifwe make a payment within three months ofthe date of your mother's death, the
estate will receive a 5% discount. I recommend that you make a payment of
$10,000.00 on or before, June 14,2008. This check should be made payable to
the Register of Wills, Agent. The payment of these sums should cover most, if
not all, of the Inheritance Tax due.
I have noted that date in my calendar and will work with you to make sure that
the payment is made to avail us of the discount. I will be out of the office on
vacation from Friday, May 30, 2008 through and including Monday, June 9,
2008. If you do not have' a problem making this payment after June 10, 2008,
please forward the check to me and I will make sure it is deposited with the
Cumberland County Register of Wills Office in a timely manner. If you wish for
this payment to be made before June 10, 2008, you may send the check to the
Register of Wills Office yourself. Their address is:
