Many of the projects have a finished handwritten inventory. The next stage of the process will be to create a type written inventory. During this process, the handwritten inventory is always checked against what is actually in the box. This allows for greater accountability during the inventorying process. "Renunciations" c1784-1936; 8 boxes. Someone started a preliminary inventory of these files sometime ago. Beverly Bone, a staff member, finished the handwritten inventory. This typed-written inventory will be more complex to complete than previous projects. The collection originally had 9 boxes and several of the later boxes were not completely filled. This allowed the folders to start to sag, which is obviously not ideal. The folders were downsized into 8 boxes to allow for better preservation of the papers. This of course means that the inventory per box is not correct. 2. "Affidavits of Death" 1874-1936; 8 boxes. Beverly Bone arranged the Affidavits by filing date and also completed a handwritten inventory of this series. 3. "Application for Letters of Administration," 1917-1936; 8 boxes & c1885-1914; 1 box. The file number given is the order for the 1917-1936 set. The typed inventory for 1917-1936 is virtually completed. That being said, we later found a box of "Application for Letters," that had not been processed at all. These are now unfolded and placed in acid free files and an acid free box. This eazlier set has no file number and aze arranged by first letter of surname and then chronologically the file date. An inventory for this earlier box needs to be completed. The typed inventories of these will begin before the end of 2009. Communication and understanding have improved with the hiring of a full-time librarian. This allows for greater discussion between the County and the Historical Society. The Historical Society's library staff also had a wonderful presentation by the Register of Wills. This helped the library staff better understand the Register of Wills' records and also helps the staff better assist the Historical Society's patrons. The library staff hopes to continue this process with the other offices. A greater understanding of the records allows library staff to provide better access of the records to patrons. Over the past year we have started new projects and have worked toward finishing old ones. These are in various stages of completion. A volunteer has inventoried a sort box, "Box H1A," which has allowed Barb Baztos to place documents into their rightful series. Another volunteer created an inventory to the Poorhouse volumes that are .housed at the Historical Society. This inventory is located at the Librarian's desk in the reading room. The Historical Society has a procedure in place for dealing with the sensitive nature of the Poorhouse records. Beyond those projects, we have focused most heavily on projects for the Clerk of Courts and Register of Wills. For the Clerk of Courts, the Historical Society has been focusing most of its attention on the Quarter Session papers (1850-1927). This collection almost has a completed typed inventory done by volunteers. This summer, we have also used the help of an intern to start identifying what is on the Clerk of Courts Miscellaneous microfilm (1860-1905). For the Register of Wills, the Historical Society has several projects in which the papers have been unfolded and placed in acid free files and boxes. This will aid in the preservation of the documents. The papers also had preliminary handwritten inventory completed. The next step will be to create typed inventories of these series, which include: Affidavits of Death, Renunciations, and Applications for Letters of Administration. Over the next year, the Historical Society hopes to finish these projects. A copy of the finished inventories will be given to the appropriate office. The library staff will work with Barb Bartos and Merri Lou to decide which projects need the most attention and should be started next. spectfully submitted, ,~; ~ , Librarian I ___.....__. _ n m A °o =!~ ` ~ r ti ~ n O'e ~ a~z- t _. ~~ ~± ~~ e' .., _. . - A ~ 1 --.---.
