Greetings! I work in the Office of Chief Counsel, for the Department of
Revenue. This office handles Release of Liens for Inheritance Tax. I was
working on an old escrow case and I believe I made an error and I need to
find out how to correct it.
I sent a title company to Cumberland County to make an adequate
consideration payment for the receipt of a Release of Lien. The property in
question is in Cumberland County. I received additional documents including a
death certificate, and it appears that at the time of her death, the
decedent was actually a resident of Dauphin County.
Could you please assist me in what documents you might need to transfer
this payment to Dauphin County?
For your records, I have attached a copy of the Receipt as well as a copy of
the death certificate.
I apologize for the inconvenience; I was under the impression that the
estate would be opened in the county the property is in, I now know it is
opened in the county of the decedent's residence.
