This gives a very simplified explanation of how the sweep account works. There is no sales collateral available that offers and in depth treatment of this particular account system. This is mainly because these accounts can be tailored to a client's specific needs and therefore requires a more involved conversation with a business banker and/or financial advisor. As I mentioned on the phone, the sweep process happens every single day that the account is open. Each business day will show three distinct entries in the transaction history for the checking account. The first will be a deposit of any interest earned on the balance that was invested at the close of the previous day. The second transaction will be the sweep from the investment account back to the checking account. The third transaction will be a sweep back to the investment account in order to be invested over night. This type of account is often referred to as a "zero balance" or "ZBA" account. In other words, each business day the account starts and ends with a balance of $0. However, the sum of the interest and the funds from the previous sweep represent the full value of the account on any given day.
