Re: File No. 21; ACN 10171940
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Yesterday I went to my bank (Wachovia) and showed the enclosed form, PA
Inheritance Tax Information Notice, to a clerk there. I indicated to the clF;rk that the
account mentioned in the form was established with my wife Nancy and continued as a
joint account since at least 01-02-1960, not O l -02-19501isted in the form.. The clerk
checked the bank's computer record and said it still showed O 1-02-1950. I mentioned to
her that that date is obviously wrong since on that date I and Nancy were both school
students in northeastern PA and had no accounts then and never met until 1957.
I further explained were married in June 1959 and started a joint account soon
after, in the same bank as now -Wachovia -- which is the fifth bank name change for the
same bank since then... so the correct date is at least O l -02-60. The clerk;, however,
insisted there is no way to change the date on the computer, so I just left her without
getting a requested correction letter from the bank.
Months ago, the attorney who is handling matters related to my wife's death told
me there are no estate or tax reports to file because all of my wife's assets were jointly
owned.
The General Information item #5 on the back of the enclosed form states
"Accounts established jointly between husband and wife more than a year prior to death
are not taxable."
So, I assume I owe nothing and need not do anything more.
Sincerely, ,'.~ - ~ ~/?
