On March 13, 2009 the Cumberland County Aging and Community Servic~s'g1~ ~r
appointed the Temporary Plenary Guardian of Person and Estate for Dona eiser~.~'
Judge Edgar Bayley. About two weeks prior to the hearing, Mr. Weiser ha~~n tall
to the Carlisle Regional Medical Center by Middlesex Township Police. He'had been-
found in someone's property at 5:OOam wearing only boxer shorts and a trench coat.
At the hospital he was diagnosed with multi-infarct dementia, frost bite, ambulation
dysfunction and multiple abrasions and contusions on knees and feet.
After the Emergency Guardianship hearing, Mr. Weiser was taken to the Claremont
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where he would be residing. On April 2, a final
guardianship hearing was held and the Agency was appointed the Permanent Plenary
Guardian of Person and Estate. After this, the Agency cleaned out Mr. Weiser's
apartment, paid his outstanding rent and applied for Medical Assistance.
Toward the end of 2009, Mr. Weiser began experiencing periods of passing out which
has been attributed to his heart condition. In April of 2010 he began experiencing
delusions and rarely came out of his room. In September 2010 he was moved off the
dementia unit because he was not benefiting from the program and was no longer an
elopement risk. He was moved to the second floor. He was still able to ambulate with a
shuffling gait. He usually only responded with "yes" and "no." He spent most of his time
in a geri-chair in the activity room.
In February he was becoming more unresponsive and was not eating well. After that he
declined rather quickly with periods of non-breathing and was placed on comfort
measures only.
He passed away on February 22, 2011. He was a coroner's case since he did not have
enough money to make pre-arrangements.
