On March 13, 2009 the Cumberland County Aging and Community Services was
appointed the Temporary Plenary Guardian of Person and Estate for Donald Weiser by
Judge Edgar Bayley. About two weeks prior to the hearing, Mr. Weiser had been taken
to the Carlisle Regional Medical Center by Middlesex Township Police. He had been
found in someone's property at S:OOam wearing only boxer shorts and a trench coat.
At the hospital he was diagnosed with multi-infarct dementia, frost bite, ambulation
dysfunction and multiple abrasions and contusions on knees and feet.
After the Emergency Guardianship hearing, Mr. Weiser was taken to the Claremont
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where he would be residing. On April 2, a final
guardianship hearing was held and the Agency was appointed the Permanent Plenary
Guardian of Person and Estate.
The agency checked with all the area banks to see if Mr. Weiser had an account at any
of them. Finding none, we opened an account at M8~T Bank with his Social Security
check. We cleaned out Mr. Weiser's apartment, paid his outstanding rent and applied
for Medical Assistance.
At the time of his death Mr. Weiser received $1018.00 from Social Security. This was
his only source of income and had to be paid to the nursing home except for $45.00
which can be kept to use toward personal or clothing items and the court approved
guardianship fee which the Board of Assistance set at$100.00.
Other than for room and board and the Guardianship fees, there were no expenses
since the last report. Clothing and grooming items were purchased for him by charitable
giving at Christmas.
At the time of his death his account held $1500.44. This was paid to Hollinger Funeral
Home as partial payment of his funeral expenses. The remainder of the bill was paid by
the Coroner's office.
A spreadsheet showing the income and expenses is enclosed.
