AREA: The subject is located in the rural recreational subdivision known as "Deer Lick Run". Deer Lick Run is the northwestern area of Tioga County, Pennsylvania, and the township of Gaines. Gaines Township has a permanent population of approximately 550 residents, and a larger transient population because of the many seasonal camps and second homes in the area. Recreation in the form of hunting, fishing, hiking, ATV-ing and snowmobiling, along with the draw of Pine Creek Valley is the major economic drive of the area. Seasonal tourism supports the many restaurants, vacation cabins and small convenience stores in the area. Wellsboro, the county seat of Tioga County, is approximately 10 miles to the southeast of the subject. Most professional offices, shopping, medical facilities and employment opportunities are located in Wellsboro. Rt. 6, the main highway going east/west is located in Gaines Twp.
