Hallett I have spent quite a bit of time researching on-line and here is what I have found (see attached). I found an almost identical Korean chest listed on ebay for a starting bid of $5,000. The only differences in the chests is the one on-line has a few lined drawers and ours are all bare, and ours is black lacquer rather than the natural wood shown in the attached. $5,000 seems very high to me and I can tell you that, to my knowledge, it has not been sold at that price. You will see that I have also attached a photo of a similar chest listed by a Japanese antiques and art dealer for $800 -- on "sale" for $650. I would be comfortable valuing the piece we have at around $1,000. Attached is a photo of antique black rosewood nesting tables listed by a dealer for $279. The nesting tables we have are identical to those in the photo with the exception of wear and tear. The smallest of the tables in my possession has a broken leg and, in addition to the repair, will need to be refinished to bring it back to its original beauty. I would assign a value of $50 at most. Also attached is an ebay photo of an antique Japanese obi chair and stool listed for $250. I have two of these chairs in my possession, but we do not have stools. I would like to assign a value to these chairs of perhaps $50 each. Next is the shoji screens listed by a dealer. You will see that the values range from $79 to $200. The shoji screen in my possession is most similar to $129 6 ft. Tall Cherry, but, of course, is quite aged and not in great shape. I would assign a value of $25 or less. In addition, attached are photos of wall art screens listed by a dealer ranging in value from $69 - $200. The wall art in my possession is not in good shape. In fact, there are multiple punctures in the screen -- front and back. I am fairly certain I could have it repaired, but I am sure it would cost more than the piece is worth, so can we assign a value of $20? I don't believe I will be doing anything with this piece. Lastly, I am in possession of a black lacquer pillow table that is in fairly decent shape. I was not able to find any information on this table, but judging from what I did see in the antique dealers sites, I would estimate the value to be around $150. Please let me know your thoughts -- if this information. will suffice. This is not my area of expertise, so if you believe we should have an appraiser take a look, please provide a recommendation.
