The Cumberland County Aging and Community Services became emergency guardian
of person and estate of Sven Jensen on September 1, 2009. The hearing was held in
front of Judge Ebert who at the conclusion of this hearing ordered Mr. Jensen to York
Hospital for alcohol detox. Mr. Jensen upon discharge from the York hospital was
admitted to Manor Care Carlisle Arcadia unit. On September 29, 2011 a permanent
guardianship hearing was held in front of Judge Ebert. Cumberland Co. Aging and
Community Services was awarded permanent guardian of person and Keystone
Guardianship Inc. was awarded permanent guardian of estate. Mr. Jensen upon
discharge from the York hospital was admitted to Manor Care Carlisle Arcadia unit.
At the time of his admission to Manor Care, Mr. Jensen was diagnosed with organic
brain syndrome with psychotic features, alcohol abuse, Wernicke's encephalopathy,
depression and thiamine deficiency. Mr. Jensen resided at Manor Care until December
2009 when he was transferred to Arden Courts Assisted Living in Harrisburg. It was
decided by the guardians and the staff at Manor Care that Mr. Jensen upon stabilizing
and adjusting to facility placement would be more appropriate in a secured Memory Unit
Assistive Living arrangement. He continues to reside there today and continues to do
well in this setting.
Arden Court staff is providing for his medical needs and sees his primary care doctor
Dr. Zanetti on a routine basis. He also receives dental and vision on a regular basis. He
received new glasses this past year. Staff monitors his mood, behavior and cognition on
a daily basis. They provide assistance with medication administration and require
cueing and much encouragement to complete all personal hygiene tasks including
showering and brushing teeth. He is independent with dressing and undressing. He
requires routine laundry and housekeeping services. Mr. Jensen is able to communicate
he needs appropriately. He also attends programs and activities on a daily basis. He
likes going out for men's luncheons, visiting different local sights and physical games.
Aging and Community Services provided transportation for Mr. Jensen to visit his wife
Barbara until her death in August 2011. She resided at Green Ridge Village nursing
home in Newville, PA due to her medical condition of Multiple Sclerosis. Mr. Jensen
has adjusted quite well to the loss of his spouse. They had many years together,

enjoyed travelling and were in admiration of each other. Visits were done on a monthly
basis and went very well. Aging staff never had any problems returning Mr. Jensen to
Arden Court.
Mr. Jensen has two children living in Norway that he has not seen in a few years due to
distance. Both Aging staff and Keystone staff have spoken to them prior to the
guardianship hearing regarding their father's situation. Notification was sent to them
regarding the guardianship hearing and their father's whereabouts since then. It does
not appear that there has been any contact between them since that time. Mr. Jensen
worked at the Pennsylvania Bar Association for 25 years until his retirement in 2009.
Occasionally a staff person from there will visit him. Aging and Keystone Guardianship
visit on a monthly basis.
Keystone Guardianship working with Aging staff readied the home for sale that Mr.
Jensen lived in with his spouse Barbara. The home sold in the spring of 2010 and burial
arrangements were made in November of 2010. Keystone Guardianship has handled all
Mr. Jensen's financial affairs and Aging his personal affairs. We have worked together
for the best interest of Mr. Jensen.
It is the request of the Cumberland County Aging and Community Services that this
agency retain Guardianship of Person for Mr. Sven Jensen. Arden Court has
demonstrated an adequate quality of care for his medical and overall well-being. We
believe, therefore that Mr. Sven Jensen should continue to reside in that Assisted Living
memory care unit.
