Dear Agent,
Enclosed is the Inheritance Tax Return for the above reference Estate. The return was originally due
August 17, 2011, but we filed a time extension request (enclosed) before that date because of an
unresolved issue with a third party, New England Financial, whom we believed held a retirement annuity
granted to the Deceased. While unfortunately New England Financial has denied the Estate's claim, the
matter is now resolved and the Estate is being closed via an executed Family Settlement Agreement
concurrently filed with the Court.
After an initial $7,000 tax payment made within 3 months of date of death, enclosed is the remaining
payment of $3,451.72 including interest since August 18th, 2011 until January 15th, 2012. Given our
timely request for an extension and the delay being caused by a third party, we kindly ask that you
waive any penalties beyond the interest.
In the return, you will note an asset listed in the attached Will referring to a QDRO Retirement Annuity.
This is the asset in question above which, due to a policy change by the former employer, was not
recovered by the Estate and is not included in this return.
Please note any remaining personal property referenced in the Will (notably diamond earrings, personal
possessions, and the previously mentioned QDRO annuity) not expressly accounted for in this return
were either unrecovered/undiscovered or donated to local charities.
