Dear Mr. Shade:
The Department of Revenue, Office of Chief Counsel, received the Petition for Appeal of
Pennsylvania Inheritance Tax and of Asserted Inheritance Tax Delinquencies, filed on behalf of
;the above-referenced Estate. The Estate appealed the Department's assessment of inheritance tax
nn an investment account owned by decedent at his death.
As proven by the evidence provided by Ameriprise, the company which held the subject account,
decedent owned only one account at his death. Ameriprise reported this account to the
Department using decedent's client identification number; the Estate reported the account on the
inheritance tax return under the account identification number. Department personnel assessed
the account twice, believing the two numbers represented two different accounts. The Estate
paid the full tax liability due as assessed on the return.
Accordingly, the Department agrees with the relief requested in the Appeal and has no objection
to it. The Department will issue record adjustments reflecting that the duplicate assessments
were stricken and a zero inheritance tax balance due. Please forward a copy of the withdrawal of
this appeal once you have filed it with the Court.
