There were two major databases used in the locate search as well as phone

The first database searched was Auto Track XP, which holds billions of records;
the second database searched was Accurint also holding billions of records. The

I met with Ms. Royer and Ms. Lay at the office of Smigel, Anderson & Sacks. All
found computer results were provided, copied, and distributed to Ms. Royer and
Ms. Lay. After discussing the case between us it was further decided that the
family knew very little to nothing about each other. I was given the names of
Ms. Wanda Atkins and Ms. Margaret K. Boulware, both from Baltimore and
related as cousins to Teresa Matthews.
A phone call was placed to both ladies and there was no answer from either.
Several phone calls were placed on different days and at different times of day to
both. I never reached Ms. Atkins however I finally talked to Ms. Boulware. Ms.
Boulware assured me to my satisfaction that neither of the cousins knew
anything about Teresa Matthews.

RESEARCH EffORTS
Attorney Royer provided certain records, documents and information to our firm in an effort to
assist us in our endeavor, and what follows is a representative example of some of our research
and genealogical efforts.
1) We received, and reviewed a memorandum that was forwarded by Attorney Royer
regarding a search that was conducted by American Investigation Resources regarding the
whereabouts of Carl S. Tabb and Theresa Matthews. The memorandum contained the
following information:
A) Carl S Tabb or Taub last known address was the Lebanon Pennsylvania area and was
believed to be approximately 72 years of age.
D) Theresa or Teresa Matthews last know address was in the Baltimore Maryland area and
she is believed to be in her 50's
2) We received and reviewed the Death Record of Margaret Levy. The record states that
Margaret Geneva Levy died March 5, 2001 in east Pennsboro Township, Cumberland
County Pennsylvania. Margaret Geneva Levy was born January 20, 1915 in Howard County,
Maryland. Her parents were George and Sarah Matthews. She was buried in Woodlawn
Cemetery in Baltimore Maryland. Wanda Atkins was the informant on the record.
3) Next, we researched and reviewed the 1920 United States Census, specifically the State of
Maryland, with the hopes of locating the family of the Decedent who would have been
approximately five years old. We found the following entry in West Friendship, State of
Maryland:
A) George W. Matthews, head of house, a fifty year old, black male. He was born in
Maryland, as were both of his parents.
B) Sarah L. Matthews, wife of the head of house, a forty-two year old, black female. She

Exhibit 1
GENEALOGIST'S NOTE:
The United States Census was taken door to door by well-
intentioned individuals called "enumerators" or "census takers"
seeking family information. This information was not verified by
any source and may contain errors that include, but are not
limited to: spelling of names, incorrect ages or dates of birth,
wrong location of birth, heritage and parental birth.
According to the United States National Archives and Records
Administration:
"The soundex is a coded surname index based on the way
a surname sounds rather than the way it is spelled.
Surnames that sound the same but are spelled
differently, like SMITH and SMYTH, have the same
code and are filed together. The soundex coding system
was developed so that you can find a surname even
though it may have been recorded under various
spellings. "
The Decedent's maiden name is often found with multiple
spelling variations in different documents. The variations
include but are not limited to: Matthews, Mathews, Matthew,
and Mathew. The spelling in this affidavit reflects how the name
appears on each document referred to herein.
4) After we reviewed the 1920 United States Census we researched and reviewed the 1930
United States Census, concentrating our efforts in the State of Maryland with the hopes of
locating the Decedent's parents, George and Sarah Matthews, and any other members of the
household not reflected in the 1920 United States Census. After much analysis we found the
following entry in West Friendship, Maryland:
A) George Mathews, the head of household, a sixty year old, male. He was an employee for
the Railroad.
B) Sarah Mathews, wife of the head of house, a fifty-year-old female
C) Frank Mathews, son, a thirty two year old male. He was employed on a farm.
D) Howard Mathews, son, a twenty seven year old male.
E) William Mathews, son, a twenty four year old, male.
F) Catherine Mathews, daughter, a twenty three year old, female.
G) Elanor Mathews, daughter, a twenty year old, female.
H) Gertrude Mathews, daughter, a sixteen-year-old female.
I) Geneva Mathews, daughter, a fifteen-year-old female.
J) Leslie Mathews, son, a twelve-year-old male.
K) Louisa Johnson, mother in law, a 70-year-old female.
L) Charles Nelson, a boarder, a forty three year old male.
Exhibit 2
5) We researched and reviewed the Social Security Death Index for any Franklin Matthews.
There were twenty-five Franklin Matthews listed. After analyzing the results there was only
one that match the information had already researched. Franklin Matthews's social security
number was issued in the District of Columbia. He died in October 1976, with his last
known residence in West Union, Adams County, Ohio. Exhibit 3
6) We requested a death record from the State of Ohio for Franklin Matthews. The State of
Ohio did a search of statewide indexes for the years 1975 through 1977 and failed to locate a
death record. Exhibit 4
7) We searched and reviewed the Social Security Death Index to locate any William Matthews,
which would match the information already known to us. We found three possibilities, one
that matched the information known. Exhibit 5
8) We requested a death record from the State of Maryland for William Matthews. We received
and reviewed the information on the record. William Henry Matthews whose parents were
George Matthews and Sarah Giles died on March 7, 1992 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was 86
years old and widowed. The informant on the death record was Margaret G Levy who was
residing at 124 West Franklin Street Apt 512 Baltimore, Maryland 21201. The funeral home
that handled the arrangements was Nutter Funeral Homes, Inc, located at 2501 Gwynns
Falls Parkway Baltimore, MD 21216. Exhibit 6
9) We placed numerous phone calls to the Nutter Funeral Home in order to have them
research their records to allow us to identify, locate and make contact with additional heirs
of the Decedent, namely a daughter, Theresa Patricia Matthews. All messages to our
requests have gone unanswered.
10) We searched for an obituary for William Matthews, in the local Baltimore Maryland
newspapers. None were found.
11) Searched and reviewed the Social Security Death Index to locate any Leslie Matthews,
which would match the information already known to us. We found only one Leslie
Matthews bom in 1917 and having a social security number issued in Maryland. Exhibit 7
12) We requested the death record from the State of Maryland for Leslie Matthews. We received
and reviewed the information on the record. Leslie Mathias Matthews whose parents were

Maryland. He was sixty-four years old and widowed. The informant on his death record
was Margaret Levy of 124 W Franklin, Baltimore, Maryland 21201. The funeral home that

make contact with additional heirs of the Decedent. All requests have gone unanswered.
14) We searched for an obituary for Leslie Mathews in the local Baltimore Maryland
newspapers. None was found.
15) Searched and reviewed the Social Security Death Index to locate any Howard Matthews,
which would match the information already known to us. We found one Howard Matthews
born in 1903 and having a social security number issued in Maryland. Exhibit 9
16) We requested the death record from the State of Maryland for Howard Matthews. We
received and reviewed the information on the record. Howard Amial Matthews whose
parents were George Matthews and Sarah Johnson died on October 19, 1970, in Sykesville
Maryland. He was sixty-seven years old and married. The informant on his death record
was the Springfield State Hospital. The funeral home that handled the arrangements was
Harry W. Haight of Sykesville, Maryland. Exhibit 10
17) We placed a phone call to the Haight Funeral Home in Sykesville, Maryland, in order to
have them research their records to allow us to identify, locate and make contact with
additional heirs of the Decedent. After checking their records, the next of kin listed was his
wife Nellie Matthews. There was no known issue. Nellie Matthews died on July 9, 1992, in
Sykesville, Maryland.

information available to us at this time to assist us in gathering any additional information
regarding the Decedent's family.
It is important to note that original documents often contain spelling errors, variations and on
occasion actual conflicts, as data may be recorded from information given by well-intentioned
individuals, whose well-intentioned information might have been flawed. Our conclusions are
therefore based upon our professional evaluation of the totality of the evidence and information
obtained, researched and analyzed, which we believe to be true and correct.
DATABASE USAGE AND CONFIDENTIALITY:
HARVEY E. MORSE, P.A. uses a multitude of public, non-public and proprietary databases in
addition to localized searches and research. Non-disclosure agreements prevent us from
publicly listing or referencing certain databases or sources used in preparing this Affidavit.
Further, even if permission were granted, listing same would result in an unfair competitive
advantage by assisting others with our proprietary knowledge based upon our years of
experience and the investment of a substantial amount of time and money to uncover these
sources of information. Therefore, we are unable to state with specificity those databases or
sources we utilized beyond those contained herein. Further, since each individual search
generates a multitude of fruitless paper reports, histories, data and other non-relevant material,
we do not save, store or otherwise retain these extraneous printouts.
