Dear Attorney Thiessen:
For various reasons, �aur client,Mrs.Pelaia., was not taken to the C�unberland County
Courthouse for the gnaxdianship hearing on November 5, 2014, We understand tt�at,des�ite her
absence, rudge Place�+ issued a guardianship order naming her son,Donald, as her guardian.
We understand tha�r Judge 1'lacey was presented medical records whic�documented Mrs.
Pelaia's incapacitated condition,caused by Alzheimez's disease and d�mezatia. We understand
that,as Mz�s. Pelaia's advocate, �ou surrimarized�auc observations from�aving met Mrs. Pelaia
personally in our facilit�. I am wnaware of any e�vide�nce that could be presented ta suggest that a
guard�anship action would not be in Mrs. Pelaia'� best interest.
We understand that Judge placey has requested tk�at a hcalthcare professional from our facility
should provide a letter to be part o:f the guardianship pcoceeding's record t4 in�dicate our opinicm
that tra�vel to the Cum�eriand CounCy Courthouse by Mrs. Pelaia to participate i,�a formal
hearing vvould not be in Mrs.Peiaia's best medical intezesCs. 'VV'e also unders�an.d t6at, if for
some reason�uve would not provide such a letter,Judge Place�could elect to reopen t�e hearing
and require thac we i�ansport Mrs.Pelai�to the Gourthouse to gi�ve her an opportunity to be
present to participate az�,d be evaluated b�Judge Placey. With all due zespect to the court, ic is
