Re: Letters of Administration granted on Sept. 1, 2006
Estate of William A. Gavenas Jr.
File #: 2006-00778
P A File#: 21-06-9778
Dear Sir or Madam:
1 am still in the process of administering the estate of my late father, William A.
Gavenas (SSN 178-22-1569). 1 am sending this addendum to assure you that 1 am
performing these tasks with due diligence. Delays in the administration and filing of
accounts are due chiefly to the following:
1) A discovery of unclaimed property (in an amount estimated at under $200).
2) Refusal by the nurse who was my father's former guardian to surrender
documentation in his possession (receipts, list of any property or other assets that 1 may
not be aware of, insurance policies, etc.).
Because 1 am the only child and my mother predeceased him in 1999, there are no other
heirs or legal claimants to the estate.
To date:
. 1 have notified my father's employer, the Social Security Administration, and the
Veterans Administration. (1 did this prior to receiving the Letters). 1 was also able to
locate, through his former employer, some of his known life insurance and notify his
Insurers.
. Prior to receiving the Letters, 1 also demanded a list of assets from the nurse who was
his guardian and was, through the nurse's attorney Charles Friedman, refused.
. On Sept. 1,2006,1 froze the remaining assets in my father's PNC account (in the
amount of roughly $3,000). Between my father's death and me being granted the letters
of administration the guardian had made several unauthorized payments to himself to
the amount of several thousand dollars. 1 will attempt to recover the amount but
probably will not be able to do so.
. On Sept. 4, 2006, 1 contacted MidPenn Bank for a statement of payments made to my
late father's nursing home and discovered that the guardian had made subsequent
requests for payment to himself and been refused.
. On Sept. 4, 2006, 1 discovered unclaimed property in my father's name (a prescription
payment of approx. $180). On October 4, 1 forwarded the short certificate and pertinent
documentation to the Pennsylvania Treasury Department. Due to a backlog in their
deaprtment, they estimate that the processing should be complete in early 2007. (Claim
99839284)
. On Oct. 6, 2006, I again sent a notarized request to the guardian and to the guardian's
attorney asking for surrender of all papers pertaining to my late father and his accounts.
. On Nov. 29, 2006, I arranged for a legal notice to be published for the requisite three
weeks in the Carlisle newspaper.
At present, I estimate the value of the estate to be at a maximum of $3,200 before taxes
and hope to file inheritance tax and a final account as promptly as possible.
