Re: Fred L. VanVoorhees Estate

Dear Margie:
r'-'
N
I have enclosed an Affidavit supporting my request that the Register of Wills, by Decree,
reduce the amount of the surety bond in the amount of $540,000, set on October 23,2006, to
$80,000, which is double the amount of the estimated personal estate, which will come into the
control of the personal representative. We very much appreciate the consideration of our request
by Glenda Farner Strasbaugh, Register of Wills, because a reduction in the amount of the bond
will reduce the expense for the surety bond substantially.
Again, we thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
~
Jeffrey R. Boswell

ESTATE OF
BEFORE THE REGISTER OF WILLS OF
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA
FRED L. V ANVOORHEES,
DECEASED
NO. 21-2006-0887
AFFIDAVIT
Jeffrey R. Boswell, Esquire, being first duly sworn, deposes and says, as follows:
1. Jeffrey R. Boswell, Esquire, is counsel to the Estate of Fred L. VanVoorhees
and its Executor, Robert Frederick VanVoorhees.
2. He reviewed Fred L. VanVoorhees' most recent account statements to
determine the gross value of the decedent's intangible assets.
3. He determined, according to those statements, that the decedent's bank
accounts total $8,802.11, and his investment accounts total $267,865.79, fO(j3 sum t~1

4. Since filing an Affidavit, dated October 18, 2006, he requested specific
information concerning the decedent's investment accounts.
5. According to written information provided by (the decedent's investment
advisor) Michael George Papson, Ameriprise Financial Services ("Ameriprise"), 4661
Trindle Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011-5603, he determined that the date of death value of
decedent's accounts total $268,663.64, comprised of different investments, as follows:
(a) Two (2) IRAs, total value - $7,771.71 - beneficiaries designated for
each account:
(b) Three (3) annuities, total value - $180,551.03 - beneficiaries
designated for each account; and
(c) SPS Advantage One investment account, value - $80,339.90 -
registered with "TOO ownership," so on the death of the owner, the
account registered "Transfer On Death" passes to the named
beneficiaries.
6. He is now informed that for every account, Fred L. VanVoorhees made the
beneficiary designation: "Primary Beneficiary: 100% Lawful children in equal shares, if a
child is deceased, his or her share to be paid to his or her estate."
7. Based on information now received from Michael George Papson, Ameriprise
Financial Services, he determined that the asserts listed in this Affidavit will be
distributed by Ameriprise directly to decedent's children, so the assets will not become
part of the estate for distribution from the estate.
8. Based on information received and reviewed, he determined that the assets
are taxable for inheritance and/or estate tax, even though the assets do not become
part of the estate for distribution from the estate.
. ..
9. He notes that the Probate, Estates and Fiduciaries Code requires according
to ~ 3171 that before Letters shall be granted to a personal representative, bond shall
be filed" . . . in such amount as the register considers necessary, having regard to the
value of the personal estate which will come into the control of the personal
representative . . . "
10. Based on information received from the named Executor and the decedent's
children, who are adults, he is now informed that the value of the personal estate, which
will come into the control of the personal representative, including bank accounts,
refunds, and household contents, may be approximately $40,000.
