Paulette Steele, has decided to withdraw her claim for alimony in the referenced matter. lieI' decision to withdraw her claim for alimony is not to be construed as an admission of fault and/or marital misconduct during her Marriage to Mr. Steele. Although Ms. Steele has been advieed by this office that she may be giving up valuable economic rights, she has indicated that she does not wish to nor is she capable of dealing with the kind of character assllssinat ion thllt such 11 proceeding will engender. Moreover, while she firmly believes that Mr. Steele shares equally in the breakup of their marriage, Ms. steele also believes that any hearing involving testimony on the marital mlsc10nduct of her or her husband would only result: in more ani.mosity between the partill!s which in the past has adversely affected her children. And, thin sit.uation Ms. Steele wishell to avoid at all costs. Therefore, in the interest of the children she has decided to forego her alimony claim even though it is to her economic detriment to do so. All you know, a teatimonial hearing was set for August 14, 1997, at 9100 A. M. on the j ssue of marital misconduct in connection with our client I s claIm for allmony. In vi.ew of our client. Thi8 is based on the following assumptions: 1, I assumed that she worked at least 1,/100 hours during the calendar years 1991, 1992 and 1993, 2. I a88umed that she continued to work after 1993 and that she Is now vested, 3, The information you sent mil Indicates that II person with flve years of 8ervice would be entitled to a pension of $220 a month at aile 65, What I did Is multiplied $220 by 3 (Ms, Steele's years ohervice 08 of December 31,1993) and divided by 5 (her assumed service as of the end of 199/1) to obtain the estimated monthly pension of$132, The present value of a monthly pCllRlon of $W2 for a femnle now age all with such benefit to start at age 6/1 is $:1,501. :; :44 * The present values have been based upon the 1l8Surnptions promulgllted by the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation for annuity vllluaUonH, The interest rllte is 1l,1\% per year for ~ Conrad M, SitW~, Ine, Sandra 1., Meilton, fl:llq, Junuury la, 1997 1'1I1l1l3 26 year. followlld by 6,0% pllr Yllar.
