Dear Mrs. Lewis:
On Friday, October 22, 1993, I appeared at your office with
Mrs. Mary A. pierce from Elizabeth city, North Carolina, for the
purpose of making application for Letters of Administration on
her late brother's estate. I trust that you will recall meeting
with Mrs. pierce ,and me as we attempted to explain the
unfortunate circumstances of her brother's death and her
voluntary assumption of responsibility to resolve the modest
estate. We explained in that meeting that it appeared that Mr.
Amrneen's estate consisted only of a modest bank account at PNC
Bank (formerly CCNB) and a 1984 Buick automobile. The bank
acoount appears to have a balance of approximately $8,000 and I
suspect that the automobile has a value of something less than
$3,000. It would appear that funeral expenses, final utility
bills and administrative costs will consume the estate.
I write you for two purposes.
First, in the petition for Letters of Administration, we
show Beulah A. Wells, sister of the decedent, as a possible heir,
although her whereabouts is unknown. 'lour deputy requested
further clarification by way of affidavit. Enclosed is the
affidavit of Mary A. Pierce indicating that her sister
disappeared over 40 years ago with a man and had not been heard
from sinoe. Thus, it is impossible to obtain from Beulah Wells a
renunciation. Renunciations were provided by the other three
siblings. Since it appears to be impossible for Beulah Wells to
be oontacted, we ask that the enclosed affidavit be sufficient
justifioation for not requiring her renunciation in the issuanoe
of Letters to Mary A. Pierce.
Secondly, I respectfully request that the bond in this case
be waived. In light of the modest estate and Mrs. pierce'a

apparent sinoerity in administering her brother's affairs, .1 am
aSking for the exeroise of your discretion to waive the bond even
though Mrs. pierce is a non-resident of the Commonwealth.
While I do not have a long past knowledge of Mrs. Pierce, I
can verify that she complied with two arrangements to meet with
me. The first occurred at the time that she came to Pennsylvania
to release her brother's body. At that time I was contaoted by
an attorney in Mrs. Pierce's hometown and requested to assist
her. The second was her appearance at your offica which required
her travel from North Carolina at considerable inconvenienoe.
Mrs. pierce has provided me with evidence that she personally
advanced the funds necessary ($5,864.62) for her late brother's
funeral expenses. I have every reason to believe that she will
discharge her responsibilities faithfully.
In oonclusion, I respectfully request that Letters of
. Administration be issued to Mrs. pierce based upon the
application presently lodged in your office.
