AND NOW, comes the Defendants, Robert A, Meredtlh, Sr. and Lorratne
MeredIth, and Answer the Complaint filed aglllnstthem as follows:

3. Dented. The Defendants deny that In October of 1993 the PlaIntiff,
Chr1st~her Koch, WllS requested to ~ovlde a loan to the Defendants In the
approlllmate amount of $2,400,00, To the contrary, In December of 1993, the
Plalnt1ff volunteered to gIft the sum of $2,442,66 to the Defendants, The reason for
the gIft was that the Platntlff was engaged to the Defendant's dllUghter. The
DefendMts were haVIng ftnMctal dIffIculties Md IndIcated that theIr daultlter could
not ~ on the school trIp to France because of theIr fInancIal dIfficultIes, The PlaIntiff
who was the fIance of the Defendant's daughter Indicated that he would voluntlllily pay
the money owed to the Defendants' credItors,
4, Denied, The Defendants deny that they told the Platntlff that due to
financIal cIrcumstances beyond theIr control their b111s rematned unpaId and that an
emergency 1000n was necessary to cllT\J them throultl theIr current financIal status,
At no point did the parttes enter Into a loan agreement. Proof to the contrary Is
demanded at the ttme of the hear1nll
5. Denied. The Defendants deny that they Infonned the Plaintiff that the
money would be repaId W1th Interest In JlIIuary of 1994when Robert A. Meredith, Sr.
received hIs retirement check from the CarlIsle War College. Any Implication that the
Defendants alned to repay the money Is denied, To the contrary, the money used to
pay the outstandllYJ bills was gifted to the Defendants by the Plaintiff.
6, DenIed, The Defendants deny that they made lilY assurlllces that the money
woold be repaId, The Defendants further deny that they were lent the money by the
Plaintiff, Proof to the contrary Is demlllded at the time of the hearing.
7. AdmItted In part and Denied In part, It Is admitted that the bt11 W1th SprilYJ
UnIted Telephone In the amount of 5514,66 was paid. It is further admitted that the
past we mortgage with Farmers Home AssocIation In the amount of 5 I ,926,00 was
paId. The Defendants deny that these payments were made at theIr reQuec;t. Proof to
the contrary Is demanded,
6, DenIed. The Defendlllts deny that the PlaIntiff was approached by
Defendant, Lorraine Meredith, lIId flrther deny that she Indicated that he would be
paId back on or before January IS, 1994,
9, Mnltted In part and DenIed In part. The Defendants admit that they
received a letter from Charles A, Koch, Jr, and Darlene K. Koch reglrdlng monIes that
were allegedly lent. Any ImplicatIon that the Defendants entered Into a 1011I
transaction wIth the Plaintiff Is denied,

not repaid the money gIfted to them by the PlaIntIff. Any IfrClllcatlon that there WllS
