I Problems wi th Log Hane (North wall first floor) we have determined after our visual inspection, numerous problems with specifically the North wall of the Log structure. 1. The entire exterior of the log portion was improperly finished. . , A Latex base paint was used to apparently camouflage or hide the , improfections for the purpose of visual esthetics. 2. By using the latex paint externally, this caused the trapping I . of any sap ancfelement moisture in the logs. 3. The deteration clearly shows evidence of bug festation and '. .of moisture rot which has been occuring for several years. All of the aforementioned was obviously covered up with the latex paint, which has a silicone base and has peeled at this point in time exposing .. the excellerated wood rot and is currently showing evidence of an extreme amount of moisture trying to escape fran the logs. 4. In conjuction with the log surface showing excellerated decay, numerous log comers ar also showing the same excellerated decay. 5. At this point in time, their is great concern of structural integrity on the North wall and associated comers. 6. The remaining exterior walls of the structue need immediate furthe testing to determine the denisty and if the bug and moisture rot is occuring thruout the structure. The entire North vall should be removed and replace along with the deterated corners, however, due tp the current occupancy ot the hane, the fact that the occupants would have to locate and obtain temporary housing, and to miniumize costs, we propose to remove approximately 4 inches in depth/the. log surtace hoping to reach good sound wood as to not disturb the interior portion of the log wall with all of the electric and kitchen cabilletrY..1nptalled on that decayed vall.
