1. INTRODUCTION
This report Is based on a review of weather data recorded in the vicinity of
Mechanlcsburg, Pennsylvania (site of the Incident). In order to determine weather
conditions and the occurrence winds during for April 9, 1995, elflelal copies of National
Weather Service (NWS) hourly observations and the National Severe Storms Forecast
Center (NSSFC) 'Prellminary Tornado and Severe Thunderstorm Reports' for April 9,
19ge were studied, Sites chosen for study include, In the state of Pennsylvania: Middle.
town, Harrisburg and Lancaster,
2, ANAL VIIS
On April 9, 19ge, the sky over Mechanlcsburg, Pennsylvania, was cloudy for the
entlr. 24 hour period, Heavy thunderstorms accompanied by streng winds, h.a~' rain
and lightning were reported between approximately 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM EDT, Winds
during these thunderstorms were northwest to north at 25-40 mph sustained with PNk
gUlts of 83 mph reported, The high temperature was in the middle 70s F and the lOw
temperature wu In the lower 40s F.
S. CONCLUSION
